If you rush straight into playing blackjack online without any knowledge of the rules whatsoever you will likely end up losing because there are a few things that you need to understand. The rules are simple though, playing online blackjack is a lot easier than to play online poker, and 5 minutes of reading will be enough for you to understand the basic concept of the game so here is a quick run through.
The aim is to get as close to 21 as you can without going over and you play against a dealer. Whoever gets the closest to 21 wins. At the start of the game you and the dealer are both given two cards although you can only see one of the dealer’s cards. From this point onwards it’s up to you, the player, to make your decisions and play your side of the game. You have the following options: Hit, Stand, Split, Double Down, Surrender and if the dealer is showing Ace you have the option of insurance. Hit means that you want another card and stand means that you don’t. Double down means that you want one more card only and your original bet will be doubled. You can split when you have a pair of two cards, for example, two 10’s or 5’s. Surrender is basically a “give up” option which will result in you getting just half of your original bet back. It’s an option that isn’t available on every blackjack game. The insurance is a bet you place when the dealer is showing an Ace and you’re basically betting that the dealer will get a Blackjack. Once you’ve finished making your moves, it’s then the dealer’s turn and they just follow a set of casino rules rather than human instinct. The rules can vary slightly from one game to another, but usually it’s a case of hitting up to card values of 16 and standing on 17 and over. That’s all the basic information about playing blackjack, now all you need to do is start playing to fully get to grips with everything. If you’re new to the game, it may be better to play some free games to get some practice in first. |
